Ok wierd leak found interior 200 1989

Hello everyone, i havent posted in a while..have been all over looking for parts and saving them up for a huge "tune-up" when the time arrives...

Ok Ok, heres the deal. It only happens when I wash me car, with either a hard pressure washer or large amounts low volume flushing style hosing's for rinsing..

It appears to show up only in the middle of the drivers side floor panel (forward of seat not under seat) where my feet go...no aparent wet streams coming from any direction to get there on the carpet. Also it does this on the drivers side rear seat foot space too...confusing to say the least..i always just thought it was worn out window seals, but there is no residue on the windows from dripping or anything....

If anyone has ever heard of such a mess please help me...I just got to the point where Im comfortable of how its running/performing...(im really particular about her...) and now this shows up! Im used to it though, cars have a wierd sense of humor HAHA!!!

Thank you so much ahead of time!

Robert

Another possibility is that your rocker panel drain holes are clogged with leaves and debris. When this happens water can build up in the rocker panels enough to start flowing in from the rustproofing plugs and around the seat belt mounts. If you put water into the cowl vents you should see all the rocker panel drains draining water properly. If you remove the door jab floor moldings and pull back the carpet the rust proofing plugs can be accessed. This is a good spot to clean them out from if clogged.

Lift the hood and look where the hood release cable goes through the firewall. If your car also has crusie control the line will go through about the same place. This can leak ESPECIALLY if the cruise control was installed by someone less than concerned with the fringe benefits of a wet and rusting passenger's compartment. Add silicone around the two openings through the rubber grommet and test with the garden hose. Good luck.

I'm with Randy, definitely. My son's wagon had this leak, and I discovered that Volvo has made a nice pool right where the hood cable enters the compartment. Add water, and the grommet is drowned. A large amount of silicone solved the problem.

Like Randy and Erling, we had a leak at this location on our '88 244 GL. I sealed it with the best GE silicone caulk I could find. The water created rust on the floorpan and seat support. The repair repair required a lot of welding. I recommend that you pull the carpet to check for rust.

i'm way behind in answering, but i had the same problem with the leak coming in from the firewall through the hood release cable hole.

i used a 3M sealant black polyurethane in a tube to seal it from the engine side. it's not silicone and will last forever. same stuff to use on sealing windshields.

            3M Windo-Weld Resealant (flexible & fast drying) p/n 08634. ~$10. in a caulking tube. black in color

            great stuff.

            regards,

mine is leaking next to it as well, a grommet i used for an amplifier wire was pulled away from the firewall..not good....plus i may end up sealing the release cable side of things as well..i think i saw a "run" coming from that as well...what a horrible time to begin too...rainy as heck here in arkansas now, and the back seat i found with laying water as well...wet vaccumed most of it, any other ways to think of to dry remaining?
