960 Intake Manifold Gasket Question. 900 1995

I am part way thru the intake manifold gasket removal process on our 95 960. All the bolts on the inner manifold are either loose or finger tight.

To all those experience folks out there that have performed this R & R I have a question :

Was the original gasket actually compromised or damaged?

If the manifold gasket was not damaged, I'd like to try to torque down the manifold bolts to spec (15 ft. lbs. center out) and see if that solves the #1 cylinder vauum leak.

What's been your experience?

Retorquing will not help. I got the wrong gasket from my brilliant local dealership. When I was halfway through the job I had to put it all back together. I retorqued all the bolts and it did not help. My gasket looks new but it did not stop leaking. I will go get the actual gasket and do the job next week. Later, Paul

960 Intake Manifold Gasket Question. 900 1995

The gasket, at least with mine, deformed and appeared to be sucked into the intake port. It deformed just enough to cause a small hole/gap in the seal. The old gasket may get a little soft with some heat, that is just my opinion anyway.

It would be best to change the gasket, I just changed mine it was very brittle and broken in a couple places. My car was idling extremely rough now it is purring like a kitten.
