'93 940T Air Filter Box Latches 900

What do other Brickboarders use to secure the top of the air filter box to the bottom when the plastic hinges that hold the wire latches break? I tried to use a WIX air filter but the foam seal was too thick, so when I tried to latch the top down, the plastic that holds the wire latches broke on two adjoining clips. A new box is $174 at Borton Volvo and my usual supplier of used parts will not sell a used one because the plastic gets brittle over time and breaks. My local junkyards don't have any 940's. As a temporary solution, I drilled a 1/8" hole through the top and bottom lips and used a plastic cable tie.

I had to drill holes in box and resort to cable ties

I used the same method that Phillip used only I used Drywall screws. I agree that it's alot easier to change out using the screws instead of the clamps.

I just tried for an hour to put a latch on mine. I got a latch from Lowes that looks like the one recommended in the FAQ. But it did not work so I just screwed four long sheet metal screws into the edges. It is tight and will unscrew easier than those tricky latches anyway.

See the FAQ for repair tips using inexpensive clamps.

Yes, I sent away to that McCann place and got 5 new clips.

I removed the airbox entirely and worked on it from my workshop. Easy as pie to drill a hole and bolt on the new clips. Now it's just like new.

By the way, I discovered that the Volvo clips EXACTLY match the clips on my son's 1995 Ford Contour airbox...
