Does anyone know of a source for step by step rust repair of the floor pans and/or the rockers?

Does anyone roadrace/autocross/drivers ed their 1800?

www.volvo-1800.com has body repair sections for sale. Duane also races 1800s. I've been dealing with him for several years and found his inventory of 1800 stuff to be lots more than adequate. He's also an excellent source of technical knowledge about our cars.

I don't know of any good sources. Seems like each job is different, depending on the damage. Some folks use pop rivets to stick a patch over the rust, some cut out the rusty spots and weld in patches, and some cut out the entire floor pan and replace it. The rockers are tricky because they have a couple of braces inside that can rust as well. Best advice is to anticipate at least twice as much rust as you can see and be prepared to take your time to do it right. Clear everything out of the way (gut the interior) so you have good access and figure out which approach makes the most sense for you.

I cut out several sections of rusted metal in the floor pans--largest was about 4" by 10"--and welded in patches. Ground the welds down a bit and put a good seam sealer over the welds. I really didn't care about looks. I sprayed the bottom with undercoat from a can and covered the top with a sound proofing sheet, so you can't see the welds anyway.

All them panels you mention are fairly straight... you can make 'em solid agian with some sheet metal and a welder. If you want originality, you can spend money on proper replacement parts, but you'd be better off to start with a rust free car to begin with.

And no... we're all granny's out here. Nobody races or rallyes Volvos. These cars are just slow old around town bricks :-)

Wow! No need to get nasty. Here in Oklahoma you don't see many, if any,
1800 on the track. I have only seen one around Tulsa.

I tried for a rust free. see post on newbie with lots of questions

We are NOT all grannies! Well, I don't own a 1800, but I own a 140, and i'm no granny. There are many people I know of that go fast in their 1800s, and have fast 1800s, and good stuff like that. Why do you ask? What do you want to know? =D Turbobricks.com has a few more performance oriented people, but about 75% of them or more have newer cars, but there are some who have beautiful classics that they race or turbocharge and other kinds of good stuff.
