B21A Warm Start Valve 200 1981

My WSV is missing. Looking at the fuel system shop manual the two
tubes sticking out of my airbox near the intake should go to a WSV.
Reading the manual, it indicates that the valve opens when ignition
is on, closes when off. Wild claims :) about better fuel usage are made.
I put an eight inch piece of 11/32 hose between the two tubes to
emulate a WSV in operation. Didn't seem to hurt today. Bad idea?
Does anyone have one that is working? Does it do anything?
I'll get one and hook it up if it's thought to be useful.
I've also got a valve/tube on my Pulsair that isn't hooked up to
anything. Everything else is quite normal aside from these missingnesses.

Just to follow up.
The motor "warmed up" much better this morning. Smoother running from the cold start. It had been kind of churning in a pulsing kind of exhaust rhythm. Not today.
There was no noticeable change in idle when warm compared to before, but I'm sure something will come up.

I think mine is working--sort of. It's supposed to be open when cold to allow more air and thus more fuel and a faster idle, then slowly close as it warms up the elecric element inside it.

That means that if you connect the hoses with no restriction, it will act like the valve is open (cold) all the time, resulting in a too-fast idle when warm.

If you close it off so it acts like it's warm all the time (slow idle) it may be difficult to start in cold weather. I think they're a little pricey, but if you can find an affordable one more power to you.

Hello B21A Folks,

I thought I knew my car and engine very well. What the heck is the "WSV", where is it located, and what does it look like?

Thanks.

Actually it's called a Cold Start Valve, I believe. It's on top of the engine between the intake plenum and the valve cover, has a plug and two hoses going to it, one on top and one on the bottom. It's supposed to be open to allow faster idle when cold, and close up when warm to slow the idle down.
