Seat cover R&R / sub.? 700

I have an 89 740T w/ tan leather interior. All seats, with the exception of the driver's, are in perfect shape. The driver's seat is trashed, of course. I wanted to replace the seat's pads and covers, at least the seat bottom, but can't find a replacement. Most places want to sell the whole seat, frame and all, and then charge a bucket for shipping to VA., making the deal not worth it. And there seems to be a scarcity of 740 tan leather seats, anyway. Is there a substitute that would work, like 940 seats?

940 seats should work. Have you tried having a local upholstery shop rebuild the leather panels on the bottom, then re-dye and treat using Leatherique? And get the foam from Borton.com or IPD.

You can go to a Pick-Your -Part yard and get the cover off a passenger seat .They are usually in much better condition than driver's seats.
The only difference is that the hole for the lumbar adjuster is on the wrong side. You can either live with that or cut one on the left side and just glue a little round, tan leather patch over the right hand hole.

Thanks for the tip on the lumbar knob hole- I forgot about that. Can't find a bone yard around where I live that has the seats. (Newport News,VA)
