Check engine light on: code 241 900 1995

My '95 960 (157000 miles) just sprung a code: 241 when checked at terminal 2 of connector "A". Apparently this translates to EGR system flow being too low. The reference I have points to the EGR vacuum booster. Does this sound correct? Where is it located, and how can I test it? Are there other things I should test as well?

I changed out the vacuum line and fittings, cleaned the contacts on the servo and tested the diaphragm in the vacuum booster. I then reset the code, and so far, no check engine light! Since this seems to be a recurrent theme on some 960's, I'll keep my fingers crossed that the problem is solved. Thanks to all those who provided their advice.

Check engine light on: code 241 900 1995

Hi, I had a similar code on my Oldsmobile 88, not trying to suggest that they are the same car, but I let it go, and it turned out to be a bad EGR solenoid(valve) eventually this trashed the Mass Air Sensor, and was too expensive to talk about. Just trying to cover all the bases, prepare to change out the EGR, if the code becomes a recurring theme.

Check engine light on: code 241 900 1995

JimE,

We got this code last winter 3 times on our 95 960 (154K) at random intervals. I reset the code each time and it has not come back in the last 10 months or so.

I am in the process of changing out the intake gasket on this car right now so when I finally get the manifold off, I will be cleaning the EGR valve (just for the helluvit) as well as changing out the O rings on the PCV box (just for the helluvit).

The EGR valve is located above the starter in an impossible location to get out without moving the intake manifold.

The details for your Motronic 1.8 are a little different from my car but in general the system has a solenoid valve run by the ecu on the driver's side fender I believe. It feeds/controls vacuum to the valve located on the other side of the engine via a plastic "pipe" routed over the top of the engine. Look for broken/rotted rubber connectors between components as a first step. A hand operated vacuum pump is a great tool to have for deeper investigations.

If you find one, the connectors are less than $3.00 at the dealer or use appropriate sized rubber vacuum line sections for a temporary fix.

Good luck & post back with your findings.
