Location of air box thermostat 900 1994

Hi. The check engine light on my car ame on so i took it into the shop. they told me that the air mass meter needed to be replaced. I ordered the part online, as well as an air box thermostat, since the recommended changing that since it can ruin the new AMM, So now my problem is locating the thermostat in order to replace it. When I take off the top of the air box, I just see empty space above and below the air filter. ANy suggestions on where I can find this part. Thanks.

Inside the air intake box there should be a "flapper" that is driven by the airbox thermostat. When you look in the box there should be two air inlets, one directed from the engine compartment, the other fresh/cool air from outside. The flapper should be between these two inlets. If it's not there then someone already had the good sense to remove it. If it is removed already, then the engine compartment intake should be plugged with something to prevent air flow, also the metallic hose (I assume your car has one originally from the factory) could be removed to reduce the hot air intake. One concern though would be if your state checks emissions, they may notice the hose missing and fail you for not having the proper set up.

Good luck,
Bean

Thanks for the responses. My 940 isn't a turbo so I should have one. The car has always been owned by my family, so I will look back in my records to see if there is any mention about anything being removed.

If you have a turbo, you don't have a t-stat.

Never actually looked/paid attention on my '94 Turbo, the '89 Turbo definatly has (ahem, had one). Wonder why they officially chose to get rid of it...probably for the reason that we all know.

Thanks,
Bean

Probably, my airbox's hole for the heated air is blocked off (actually, the hole was never cut out).
