hey all, head swap, wont start these are the things ive checked, any of your suggestions? 200

1989 B230F with new 398 head.

it fires on #1cyl at TDC, i smell gas, and i hear the pump working..the grounds on the fuel rail are gtg. the ground on the valve cover is on, not tight all the way but i held it tight against the stud and no luck there either, the stud i had to put in there is too long maybe ill add another washer

AMM is plugged in, tps is too....even if the AMM was bad it would at least start correct? just not good. Oh well i need this car next week for a long trip and i imagine i should be crying about now lol.....

thanks ahead of time,

robert

I had the same type of thing, only mine was only firing on #4. Here is what one BBer suggested http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=890544. My issue was that my replacement engine had been sitting too long and the fuel injectors got clogged. Once I replaced the fuel rail, everything ran fine.

Good luck!
Eric

Even if the timing belt matches up, you may have sheered the pin. At tdc, make sure you can feel the piston with a pen (at #1), make sure the rotor is at the right position and make sure the cam lobes are correctly aligned.

If that's all correct, check to see if you are getting spark.

well ive checked the timng marks a few times, always coming back to tdc marks, and i checked spark at the plug wires and it fires when at tdc...

is there anyway else the timing can be off? i mean if the marks all line up after two revolutions then it should be golden right?

could it be a possibility that the coil isnt producing enough?

thanks guys,

robert

You could be 180 degrees off with the plug wires. Try swapping them all two spaces either direction.
