Question for you all, I was just given a bentley manual for the 200 series that covers 1983 - 1993. I have an '82 242. Considering this manual was free versus $45 dollars, I am wondering what the changes were between 82 and 83. Do I need to get the correct year, or will this manual serve it's pupose?

See if you can find a Haynes manual on eBay. There are two editions covering the 240. First is for 1976 thru 1986, the second goes to 1993. Your car is covered in both, and either will do as an addition to your Bentley. Different pictures, British wording and phraseology. Fender = wing, trunk = boot, etc.

There are many more then just 2 editions of the Haynes manual...

Didn't they come out with one every year?

I've seen some that go from '74-79, '74-'82, etc...

I have a green one that is '74-'90.

That said, the Haynes in combination with the Bentley manual is an unbeatable combination when it comes to our Pre-'83 cars. (Well, except for the Volvo Green manuals, those are the best, but not very affordable...)

I've used the Bentley for all kinds of stuff regarding my 81 242. BTW, all the 242's are 2 doors. The last digit tells how many doors the car has. You'll probably really enjoy the car. There's a lot the average guy can fix on these cars with the help of the Brickboard and Bentley. Good luck with your new car.

It is the only manual to use for 240s. Lots of stuff will apply to your car. LH 1 is not covered as such, perhaps, but if you have K-jet, the turbo sections should help. You will not find a Bentley for earlier than 83. Berntley excerpts lots of Volvo shop manual info.
