Help! No heat what to check 700 1985

I have no heat and do not know how to fix it! Someone on another post suggested vaccuum motors, etc. Are they expensive to replace? Let me add, some days the heat comes on after driving for about 20 minutes. I believe last year I replaced the water valve in the engine compartment.
Freezing,
Will

Are you sure your thermostat is working properly? I had the same problem in my '89 740 and a new thermostat solved it - make sure the heat range is correct on the new one.

You may have a partial blockage in your heater core. It could also be a vacuum leak that controls the heater valve. Bad hose, etc.

Sorry about the lack of heat. I would go to Autozone and by a hose splice, remove the heater valve from the line, then start the car and see if both sides of the heater are getting hot. If you have a blocked core, the discharge side hose will stay cold. If you get heat, then the valve is bad or the vacuum is not reaching it. Repairs could wait until spring!
