740 radiator FCP Nissans or Mtc?

I need to replace the rad on my wife's 1989 740. FCP Groton has several models, I have several questions.

Offered are two Nissans models, one a three row heavy duty all metal for $175, and the other a two row plastic for $165. My preference is for the all metal, but my question is, is it truly all metal, including the hose nipples? I remember throwing away an otherwise servicable Jetta radiatior because the plastic bypass hose nipple broke.

Second, FCP also offers an MTC 3 row all metal for $135.00. What's the diff between that and the Nissans? (I Know, other than the 40 bucks) Anyone have any experience with these, good or bad, and any advice on other alternatives?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings, or whatever to all.

Eeuroparts.com has a 2 row all metal Nissens(metal hose connections) for about$120 including shipping. So far so good in my 240 and Va summers,no problems cooling in heavy traffic with ac going. Only problem is paint peeling on the top.

Like ScanTech, MTC has made some extremely crappy products, so my suggestion is to stay away from it like the plague!

Got a 3-row all metal Nissens in my '91 and '90, a 3-row all metal CSF (earlier design) in my 245. All work fine in this desert known as SoCal.

Paid $150 for the Nissens in the '91 (new, from local mom-and-pop shop). The '90 had one already (service records points out it was replaced in 2000). The '86 was plucked from a junkyard for $15.

After reading Kane's post I must correct mine. I have a CSF rad in my 745T and am very happy with it NOT an MTC. The rest of my original post remains the same.

        CSF

Think that's bad, try remembering all the acronyms in the newer cars!

As for the CSF ... early or later design? Mine's was an earlier design, which didn't fit so well on the brackets due to its thickness, but later designs were resolved. Other than that, no complaints here.

-- Kane ... just trying to place my unit age-wise, that's all.

          CSF

          Hi Kane,
My CSF was in the 745t when I bought it with a blown headgasket 3+ years ago. It looked brand new then and still does now...just a bit more dusty. The fit looks made for it so I'm guessing it's the updated version.

    Hi Boxvolvo,
I am running an MTC rad in my 745t for 3+ years without a problem and am very happy with it. There have been some quality concerns about Nissens of late...do a search on the B.B. If I were you I would change the rad cap when you change the rad. Again, do a search on the board for the correct color cap...i forget. Another option that I have used in the past with very good results is Modine radiators. All metal, U.S. made and under $100 locally at a truck parts place. Had one of these in a 245 for long time and will be gettig another for my 242ti in the spring. Good luck.

You are frankly better off with the Nissens aluminum-plastic radiator than with an all-metal unit. My all-metal unit corroded within one year using Dexcool: the composite radiators are not only lighter, but the aluminum is corrosion-free. They of course have limited lifetimes (8-10 years) due to the plastic, but at these prices one does not get concerned about that. The Nissens is a good competitor to the OEM Blackstone composite, which is a superb radiator but more expensive.

MTC likely sources their units from the far east, with unknown quality levels.

i bought a Nissens plastic radiator for my benz, fits well and cheaper than oem behr.3? yrs now,so far so good.
I bought a Nissens tropical hd metal rad and installed it 6 months ago.Black paint all peeling already in large flakes on top of cooling fins/Lucky I kept the original 14yrs old Blackstone plastic rad, still intact after 14 yrs,I'll install it again if the new metal rad fails.
