Wheel Pin 91 240 200 1991

This is not a complicated post, but I want to get it right.....

I have ordered some 15X7 Borbet Type Es to replace the 14" steel wheels on our 91 240. I know I have to remove the locating pin. Previous posts indicate the pin should be replaced by a 6 mm bolt. Does anyone know what length I need? I have seen 1/2 to 1" listed.... Does it have to be countersunk, or can a standard hex head work?

Thanks for the help. have a great holiday!

Dave

Try to get the ones without the little flaired washer at the bolt head. You want it to sit right on the rotor and fit the pin recess in the wheel. the size you quote seems ight, go with 3/4" if you can. I had counter sink small holes in soke alloys once, they did not have a recess for the bolt heads. But the rotors are going to be secure even without any bolts.

M6x1.0. Anything from 10-20mm is just dandy. The original pin has maybe 10mm of threads, tops.

Actually, exactly 14mm long 200 1991

re: "...The original pin has maybe 10mm of threads, tops...."

Actually, I just measured one of the OEM pins that I removed* last week from my '93, and the threaded shank is exactly 14mm long.

[ * I take them off each winter with the mounting of my snow tires, which are on old wheels lacking the hole for the pin. In the spring, I put the original wheels with summer tires back on, and put the pins back on, too, although they clearly aren't needed, the brake pads holding the rotor in place quite adequately.]
