Radio code 200 1993

I would like to know the code for my volvo 240 radio. The serial number of this radio is VO1510B9174333B. I bought it a junkyard. I took it to a Volvo dealer and he wants to know the VIN number of the vechile the radio came from and the vechile registration, none of which I have. I know they are were trying to prevent thieft in the early 90's when the radios were worth something. But, who would want to steal a radio like this these days anyway? Is there any way of getting the correct code and if so how is it entered?

He doesn't need the VIN number. The radio model # and serial # will suffice. Try another dealer. DO expect to give them your VIN and registration information. They are supposed to do this to prevent theft but they also will update the number in the Volvo N.A. online computer- in the future you'd be able to go to any Volvo dealer to get your code if you lost it.

I agree no one is stealing 12 yr old factory stereos. Try another dealer service dept and you'll find one that will be cooperative sooner or later.
Sounds like the guy was just being disagreeable. Wouldn't hurt to have a receipt from the junkyard with you to convince the guy...
