Restoring 164 foglights 140-160

I'm nearing the end of a global scavenger hunt for my 164 foglights, and need some advice on refinishing the silver reflective surface on the interior of the lamps. I've been told that the surface is not "silvered" like a mirror is -- is there a silver paint that would do the job? Is there a shop that anyone might be able to refer me to that does this type of work? Thanks --Jonathan

A good cleaning and a hit with "high reflective silver" will work pretty well. Don't forget to mask the bulb hole. Eastwood sells stuff especially for this.

Platers can help too (check your yellow pages) but they are getting scarce now as the EPA has clamped down on the disposal of their very toxic waste stream.

A quality chrome-plating starts with piece prep and goes through a five or six stage process (including copper plating) to arrive at the finished product, so it is a bit pricey... IF they can fit you into a production run.

Probably if you could separate the metal from the glass you could get the
metal polished and plated, or maybe even find some kinda reflector that would
fit snugly over it.

There is a sealed beam unit that is the right size. I've been trying to figure
out how to mount one for quite some time. If anybody knows any old car parts
that could be easily modified to do this, I'd admire to know what they are!

Jackson Pike in Suwanee, GA is pretty well versed in fog lights. I believe he is winding down his business but did help me out with an Avanti just a few weeks ago.

Jackson can be reached at this email address: visual.effects@charter.net

Best wishes,

Joe Menacker
