I just put a 52mm tach in my 240. The bulb won't light, and the connections are solid. I think the bulb is fried, but it looks different than any of the other interior dash bulbs - and doesn't have a number on it.....at least that I can read. It is a clear bulb with a brass base, but is smaller that the glove box light bulb.

Does anyone know what bulb goes in the back of a 52mm tach? Thanks for the help!

I just put a small tach in, too. My bulb was burnt also. The shop that did the wiring was able to replace with "1 bulb - tachometer 942327"

And it works, but it's not very bright. Hope the number helps.

The local Volvo dealer had no clue, would have to order it. A local reputable Volvo repair shop, Carl Duke Volvo Repair in Fort Collins, CO, had them in stock. I don't recall the number.

There is another post in this thread with two URLs to bulb sites, and the first one looks right, but none of the bulbs in the second URL match.

These bulbs are not the same as any other bulbs in my dash, save the 52mm voltmeter.

I've never actually seen the bulb in a 52mm tach, but from your description it sounds like a ba7s type bulb. I know the bulb in the 52mm ambient temp gauges are ba7s, and I think the gauges are similar, and much deeper than the other 52mm's, thus the larger bulb.
Check with local auto parts store, tell them you need a ba7s. Volvo parts dept (four different ones) are still scratching their heads over my ambient temp gauge bulb. Still haven't replaced the bulb, but I bought the lighting catalog to figure it out.
base of the bulb has little "wings" or ridges on a ba7s, as opposed to a ba9s (interior lights, such as glove box, seat belt warning lamps, etc.) which has round tabs like the 1157 turn signal bulbs.

I replaced my 52mm tach bulb, and it looks like the one in the first URL you cited, but nothing in the second URL looks right.

it is the same bulb as most of the dash/instrument bulbs.

Thanks, but it looks different. I've got the little ones with the glass bases, and some similarly sized ones with black plastic bases for the dash lighting - neither will fit. I pulled the blove box bulb to see if it would fit, and it looks similar to the bulb in the tach, but is slightly too big.

The only numbers I can make out are 2w12v - that part I get.
