For many years now and I certainly have a lot to learn yet.

Not to brag, but 2 in the World of Wheels in 89 and 90.

As a rule of thumb, no sil where there's potential of gasoline.
I'm not saying my view's the only one, but then again, I'm not upset because you disagree with me

Have a happy new year,
Frank

good for you 200

I don't just work on cars, I fix them. Every day. I do alright.
If you use silicone, why use a gasket? Silicone is used far too much by people who do not understand its properties. What is the single most effective solvent for softening RTV silicone?. Gasoline.
Use silicone or a gasket, but not both.
Volvo green manuals specifically state that no sealers of any kind are to be used with their gaskets, particularly with the turbo engines. That's good enough for me.

In Doug's case, it should go on dry.

But, remember the acetyl radical released during the RTV cure and gasoline are both polar and thus behave strictly opposite in the Southern hemisphere. Torque needs to be adjusted to allow the slippery sealant to aid in repositioning the paper gasket such that it will better impede the flow of hot intake air.

Install the intake gasket absolutely dry. Tighten gradually from the center out. All will be well.

What car? What engine? Do you have an Oxygen Sensor?

If no Oxtgen Sensor, then it is a good practice to use Clear Silicone Sealant.

If there is an Oxygen Sensor, then use Red RTV Sealant.
