89 240 Electrical problems Help!!! 200

Hi everybody! I hope the new year is going well.

Last month I purchased an 89 240 gl with 242,000 miles. Runs well and all things worked when I bought the car. Yesterday was the first real day I have driven the car. When I got home from work. I sopped the car and when I went to lock the doors I noticed that the power door locks would not work. I did some checking and the power windows will not roll down and the turn signals are inopertive. They worked when i left work 15 minutes earlier. What gives. The headlamps, brakelamps, driving lamps, and the flashers work. I look at the fuse box but did not see anything out of the ordinary. I sure hope this is a common cause. All help will be greatly appreciated.

While you're at it, if you have or can scrounge, a wiring diagram or chart of the relays: see if all those things run from the same relay. You may have an intermittent defect cureable by "fosterizing" (see the search function under "Don Foster" and "solder" or "re-solder"

When the battery is low, ie. system not charging, things that draw more current may not work.

I came home from work today and the dang turn signals had healed themselves. Now are working correctly with no intervention at all. The windows are still inopertive.

The battery may have come back a bit after resting awhile. Before heading out on a long drive check the voltage at the battery with a multimeter. Engine running you should be getting around 14V.

I would absolutly give the fuses another look. I have an 89 240 that has a leak that allows water to run down over the fuse box on it's way to the floorboards. At first glance the fuses "look" fine but the ends corode very quickly after a rain..makes life interesting everytime you go somewhere it's "I wonder if this is going to work today?"

If it was anything other than my $150 "junkyard special" I would probablly see about gettimg the leak fixed.

And no I don't THINK the light being out would kill the signal lights completely..it might make that side flash real fast but the other side should be fine.

good luck...electrical issues are sooooo much fun!

Check the fuses again..... If they look OK then do the spin thing on them to clean any corrosion on the contacts. If this clears the problem then you know what you have to do as soon as possible (clean all the contacts in the fuse box and apply antioxidant).

The fuses involved in your problem are: 8,10 and 13

Check the fuse first. I think it is the #8, please check the cover chart. These VOLVOs can develop bad fuse contacts. How about the radio? If the radio is not working either, I am pretty sure it is the fuse. Good luck!

Radio does not work. After looking in the fuse box It seems that the radio or something is wired to fuse number one. Anyway I will be getting out the test light and checking the fuse box soon as the wx clears up and it gets cold again. So I can get the Vw bug out of the garage. and park in the back yard. It is very muddy here in Kentucky. We had a ten inch snow storm Thursday before Christmas. Then it warmed up and now it has been raining for three straight days.

Btw Someone broke out the right front turn signal lens. If one of those bulbs was damaged would that keep the turn signals from working?
