Changing from solid motor mounts to hydralic ones 700 1986

Feliz new year,Bricksters:
My first question for the new year. I just (last night) bought an 1986 740 station wagon. It has the solid motor mounts (of course, broken or blown out). I feel that the hydralic ones make the car smoother to run.
If I go to the Pick N Pull and get the correct supports, could I relace the solid system with the hydralic one?
Or should I stay with the OEM?
gracias,
el Raidman

Thanks,guys:
Guess I didn't know a good thing when I saw it...solid engine mounts for my 86 are $8 each while the hydralic ones are $45 each....big difference.
Dale gas, Vatos!!

Good replacement solid rubber engine mounts are cheap, and do a fine job of absorbing the four cylinder enginge vibration. I am going to replave the hydraulic engine mounts on my 1987 with the earlier solid mounts.

john,
I have an 88 744 with hydraulic mounts. Are the solid mounts a direct swap? Thanks,

Jes

No, they are not a direct swap. You need both brackets which fit the engine, and both brackets which fit the block.

FCP Groton does sell a solid rubber engine mount which directly replaces the hydraulic engine mount, but they are $35 each instead of $8 each. I got the brackets for the 1986 and earlier cars and used the $8 engine mounts.

You can see the differences in the pictures of the right hand side engine mounts.

I see...thanks to your photos. I will probably head down to the PNP and see if any of their wrecks have the solid mounts. Thanks again.

1986 and earlier 700s have the solid motor mounts. Contrary to what FCP Groton says on their web site, 1987 and late 700s with manual xmsn have hydraulic motor mounts, just like the auto xmsn cars.

The B234 cars have solid rubber motor mounts. Probably because the counterbalance shafts give the engine less vibration.

You could change, but, IMHO, it would be wrong.
I went the other way, and I'm happy.
