Importing Volvo from USA to Canada - 15 years & older .... ????

Has anyone had experience with importing a pre-1990 volvo to canada from the USA ???

From what I read on the Canadian Government sites, volvo's under 15 years age require much modification at a dealer before they are acceptable. (estimated cost by a dealer was several thousand $$'s)

HOWEVER - from what I read - all vehicles (except buses) 15 years and older, are acceptable - this seems to read that they do not require dealer mods.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks

I am also interested in this.

Volvos seem so much cheaper in the States.

We were in White Rock BC for Christmas - looked in the lower Mainland Auto Trader - and Buy & Sell.

      Pricey !!!!!

From what I could glean from

      http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importation/menu.htm

      - it seems to say that all cars - 15 years and older are acceptable as is..

I need to verify that - I know that when I was looking into a Volvo that was under 15 years age - the feds required a Volvo dealer to install bilingual stickers in place of every english sticker on the car - change out the MPH speedo head to a KPH speedo head - etc.

Real bureaucratic red tape - Someone must have swapped the Canadian government training videos with a pack of Monty Python tapes way back - and now we are reaping the misconstrued idiocies!!!

I looked at 8 Volvos--3 in Victoria and the rest in Vancouver.

The most expensive one I saw was 1990 Volvo 745T. It was in very nice shape although brakes pulsated, there was an oil leak on diff, muffler ready to rust through and no A/C. Price? Only $10,900!! I offered him $7500 and no way.

I'm often green with envy at the prices American folks can buy Volvos..

Check out some of these prices from Abbotsford:

Thanks for the info about car importation. They are trying to discourage it, from the info you provide. So much for free trade.

The good news is that a 1990 Volvo now applies. Often these can be found in decent shape.
