replacing timing gear- cant remove it 1800

I recently ran into a problem with my cam timing gear- namely, it fell apart. Despite its strong resistance, i have managed to remove the bolt that holds it on. Now, i have a cam with the hub of the gear still on it. It is still secured by the cam retaining plate ( please excuse any misidentification of parts- i dont think im far off if im wrong ) but i can not remove the hub of the gear. I was given the suggestion to try to put a screwdriver behind it and pry it off- there is no space in which to fit such a thing. The hub is flush with the surrounding surface. I am aware of the danger of sliding the cam backwards too far and am looking for a way to do this safely. I imagine there is a puller of some kind available- i havent looked into it yet. If anyone knows where i can get one of those cheap or how to substitute for it i would greatly appreciate any input. As well as some advice on putting on the new gear. I know there is a woodruff key there but im not entirely sure how that works- is this my problem? Thank you for your help.

Never use screwdrivers as levers on the gear, that will make it fail.

Put the nut back on & on screw it down until it is flush with the end of the cam, get a decent hammer & smack it in the middle & the gear will release from the cam.

His gear is toast, gone, nonexistant. That's why he is having difficulty getting whats left of the hub off.

I've seen it done by careful wedging, using successively thicker blunt-edged chisels. The cam wasn't "walked" and no harm was done. the gear was purchased in a set, but we only replaced the fiber cam gear.

If all that is left is the central hub you will need to bite the bullet and CAREFULLY create some room to attach the arms of a puller or get a screwdriver between the thrust plate and the hub by... tapping with a hammer.

Give it a firm but not wild tap then grab it and pull. After just one tap you should have room to get a leverage device in there. The idea is to not allow the cam to go forward or backward enough to either drive out the plug (a fair distance) or drop the lifters off the lobes!

The best thing to do is replace the nut so that you cannot drive the cam in more than 1/8" then smack it (with care). Once the hub is loose it should come off with a minimum of fuss.

Camming shaft is not going to be going anywheres with teh reatainering plate on teh back of gear hubs and woodruffing key on front. Untill teh hubs is off is no woory about teh lifter s falling or pushink frost plugg outt0 teh back.

Try som heat lik propaning torch on aluminium gaer center hubs? then grab with super great stong chanallockingpliars?
