Driveshaft interchange between 740 and a 760 700

I have a '87 740 wagon with a 4 speed/Overdrive that has drive shaft vibration. It has always had a bad thunking underload since my family got the car in '88 but recently it has picked up a bad vibration at freeway speeds. I also have a '83 760 sedan parts car 4 speed/Overdrive. The drivetrain was fine when the drive shaft was taken out. Could I swap it in to the wagon? I haven't had any luck finding drive shaft lengths and since the weatherman is forecasting freezing rain and snow I was hoping to find an answer without freezing myself to the underside of my car.
Thanks
Chris

The driveshafts should be the same since both had the same transmission. The usual source of the vibration, however, is the guibo, or flex disk, whatever you choose to call it. If both driveshafts have the flex disk, than the driveshafts are compatible. The other sources of vibration frustration are the tranny mount and the center support bushing. If you have been experiencing clunk for quite some time, I believe that c) all of the above would most likely apply.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Thanks for the info. I will go hunting for the old driveshaft and see about swaping things in. It would be nice to get rid of a couple of problems at once.
