'95 945T - think I found the cause of my oil leak - can you please advise? 900

Hi guys. Hope all is well. I have a question about an oil leak on my '95 945T (130k).

I pulled the lower engine cover and spent the afternoon washing the undercarriage, and cleaning all the spilled oil residue from the oil pan/transmission/under the turbo areas. I determined that my primary oil leak is coming from --- what I believe is an oil feed/returnline --- to/from my turbo. Right in front of the oil filter housing is the problem. There's a long tube that attaches to the block, and then attaches up to the turbo. I'm sure it's a faulty "O" ring. I think it seems to be leaking at this lower attach point at the block.

My question - and I'm looking at the FCP Groton site - do I need:
1) 947282 Turbo Oil Feed Line Gasket $0.30 Elring
2) 947621 Turbo Oil Feed Line Gasket $0.50 Elring
3) 1378680 Turbo Oil Line Gasket between return pipe and block $1.50 Genuine Volvo
4) 1306264 Turbo Oil Line O Ring Between Oil Drain Pipe and Block $2.50 MTC

And, since I'm there, I need to replace the coolant hoses that attach to the oil filter housing (oil cooler hoses?) These are definitely a bit soft from oil dripping on them. What are these called? I can't find them on the fcp groton Web site.

Thanks!

Normal: a regular leak point. The gaskets from FCP are just fine: you will need two (one an o-ring seal for the bottom end and one a composition gasket for the top.) See the 700/900 FAQ under Engine-Turbo for incredible detail and instructions.

I've always bought my oil cooler hoses from the dealer, usually www.borton.com for discounts. The two of them combined are ~$25.

Your car (like my '94 945T) has a Mitsubishi turbo. On the FCP website I would go with the Volvo gasket between the block and return pipe (1378680), for the other gasket between the turbo oil outlet and return pipe I would call Nick and ask what the difference is.

If you are a fan of preventive/preemptive maintenance I would also consider changing the o-rings on the oil cooler. There are two: one between the block and oil filter adapter and the other somewhere inside the oil cooler. Check the FAQ, you'll need B.M.F. sockets to do the job. The o-rings are also probably dealer only.

Steve - as always, thanks for jumping in. Yes, I read the FAQ quite a bit before posting my original message. Great information. Just wanted to make sure on the leak. I'll go back to check the fix steps. It all looks very straightforward. Compared to pulling the head on this turbo car, which I did about 18 months ago, anything else would be a piece of cake ;)

Bean - thanks for your advice. Yes, you were right on the money. Just called the volvo dealership. $8 / $13 ----- for the oil cooler hoses. O ring for the return pipe (to the block) - $4.00 !!! and the gasket for the top, $1.86. Pricing all sounds fine, except for that O-ring. I'll pick them up later today.

I will do more investigation on the O-rings on the filter housing. Yes, I remember reading something about huge sockets to do this job, LOL. Hopefully, the return pipe fix will cure my leak. But, as I'm at the dealer, I'll ask about getting those O-rings. Many thanks guys.
