Window scrapers.......Are there any out there??? 200 1986

On my '86 sedan, my inside window scrapers are in excellent condition because I never rest my arm out the window and have tinted windows. But the outside ones have small vertical cracks but no sections missing.....until this afternoon. I tried to put a long box in through the front passenger side window and found it wouldn't go up on the rear parcel shelf. So I pulled the box back out and found that both inside and outside scrapers were almost totally destroyed being they were so brittle. I remember a post where someone was going to make lenghts of replacement scrapers, but never heard back from him nor can I find his post. Are there places that sell replacement units for in and outside or is this a dealer only rip-off if they still carry them at all? Or is there something else I can fabricate or put on from another type of car (non-Volvo)?

Thanks for advice in advance.

I needed some for my 242. I found a 245 at the junkyard and pulled all four window scrapers. I pieced two of them together to replace the one on my 242's driver's door. I'll do the passenger door later. The boneyard ones were in good shape and still flexible. This repair may sound a little weird with a joint in the scaper, but it actually came out pretty well. It looks and works much better than the old broken down scraper. If yours is a four door, you should be able to find a good set if you're patient. Most are thrashed, but once in a while you find a car that has been garaged all its life, and it might have a good set. I haven't heard of any good replacements on the aftermarket, but there might be something out there.

Has anyone ever tried using these on a 242 and just cutting a second piece to fit? Is there anything about the rubber that leads you to think this wouldn't work?

I did this before our Northwest rains started on my 82 242. I had some scrapers from my parts 245. A little patience, soap, screwdrivers/ implements of destruction got the rubber freed from the 245 metal "holder". Cut two to fit the length of the 242 "holder," more soap, and the two rubber pieces fit together almost perfectly. There is a small seam, but it's not noticable. There's no streaking, even when scraping frost from the window!!!

sweet - thanks.

Did you have to remove the chrome/trim/holder from the door of the 242?
