High Idle 900 1991

Hi! I have 91 940 w/ a 16 valve engine. I recently cleaned my Idle control valve by soaking the inside part for about a few hours w/ a throttle body cleaner by Valvoline. It was running really rough at that time. After I put it back, my car is running really high on idle at about 1200 to 1500 rpms. What did I do wrong and how do i correct this problem? Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Dear volvofanatic,

Good a.m. and may this find you well. Did you immerse the entire valve in cleaner, or just the end, to which the hoses attach?

Did you lubricate the valve, after you cleaned it? It may be sticking. A light spray of WD-40 may ease things.

Please post back with further findings.

Yours faithfully,

spook

Hi spook! I only sprayed the part where the hoses are connected and the inside part w/ throttle body spray. I let it stand for a few hours. I didn't immerse the entire idle control valve.
