Removing cigarette smell from interior 700

Tomorrow will be 21 days SMOKE FREE for me for the first time in 20 years. Finally made it through a New Years Resolution to stop, . . . no more jitters, and it actually wasn't nearly as bad as I had read it would be . . . but now (you guessed it!) my car smells like a SMOKER'S CAR and I want it to stop! Recommendations (other than a good Mean Green bubble bath for the interior) for removing the smell that my own habit was masking?

Ozone generator. 700

There's a reason the one guy gets $100 for destinking a car.

A commercial ozone generator runs about $495.

Ozone is normal oxygen (diatomic or 0sub2) with a third atom of oxygen hooked on. As you might guess, it's highly reactive and will oxidize most tobacco smell and other odors.

You DO NOT operate or occupy the car while this sucker is running!!!!

Hi, GOOD JOB!

Anyway, a couple years ago my daughter bought a car from what must have been a smokestack. I mean, I would not have bought the car on the basis of the smell alone! But, we finally got rid of the smell. First off, realize smoke is EVERYWHERE -- on the seats, on the headliner, in the carpet, and in the vents. Start by thoroughly cleaning everything you can get to. Clean the seats, dash, console, etc. with appropriate products. And don't forget the steering wheel. Now that you don't smoke any more, smell your hands after driving -- you may be shocked!

Then shampoo and Fabreze the carpets, and Fabreze the heck out of the headliner -- you can clean the headliner with a mild solution, but you may be asking for staining and/or a headliner to come loose. You are probably better off just using Fabreze.

Finally, get auto deodorizer spray containing ions, or whatever. Use that fairly heavily, and turn on your vent fan while the spray is freshly in your car (with windows sealed shut and the vent set to "recirculate", of course). Your vents are full of smoke smell, so you have to get something into there to deoderize the vent system. You'll have to treat the vent treatment a few times over a period of a couple weeks to finally get rid of the odor from the vents.

Then over the period of the next month or so, leave the windows down every chance you get. Even with all the available chemicals, good ol' fresh air probably works about as well as anything.

Continue to use Fabreze on the carpets and upholstry, and after about six weeks of following the steps outlined above, the smoke will be gone!

And, in about a year, your lungs will be good as new, too!

I didn't even drive my car during those 21 days, since it was one of my "havens" that I associated with smoking. So today was really the first day that I took my 740 for a ride, and as SOON as I opened the door I was like "yuck , ... is this what people smelled when they rode with me?" And I was only a 1-pack every two days smoker before but I did enjoy opening the sunroof and flicking my ashes down the highway. But the smell this morning showed me how accustomed I had become to the smell of tobacco -- which is not one of the most aromatic especially in the closed confines of the space of an automobile.

I'm am thankful to have gotten through it and encourage anyone who is thinking about stopping to DO IT. You'll thank yourself in as little as 21 days.
