Lights gradually dim and battery dies while driving 200

89 240 wagon. The dash lights, headlights, all grow dim and the stereo stops working the longer the car runs. The longer I drive it worse it gets. I can start out with a full charge and once i stop somewhere the car won't even turn over. Also, when I drive it and hit the brakes, everything dims, lights, everything...and the fan (newly replaced 1 year ago) kind of slows down, like there's a lack of electrical power. Any ideas?
