I bought my 760GLE in almost mint condition, one of the things that make it "almost" is the lack of foglights.
The holes in the front spoiler are there for them, as is the hole in the drivers side where the access plate usually goes. Are there any aftermarket foglamps (ie, bosch) that are essentially the same unit as the factory volvo ones, or am I going to have to dig through the scrap heap for them?
switches, and etc are all there, just no foglamps. Don't know the fate of the wiring, and should probally check that.
as for driving lamps, I heard tell that there was a set of driving lamps that come on with the high beams, and live above the bumper just inboard of the headlamps. Where can I find the lamps, mounting brackets, wiring, and switch for them?
help appreciated!
thanks

Clinton,
What part of Canada are you from? If you are close to Calgary, You can take a look at my system - H4/H1, with Bosch fogs and Driving lamps. AKA a boxy rally car ;)

I pulled some bosch fogs out of the yard off of a 240 and then stumbled across this site while looking for a replacement reflector: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sm/volvo~fog_light~mpreplacement.html?apwcid=M1092232155W411a23db5fb4c&apwkwd=Bosch+260+Fog+Light
It appears as if these would be the stock replacement for your 740 as well and that they come with the mounting brackets. You have it easy with all of the wiring and switch, hopefully relay too, installed already.
Good luck, if you order from them let me know how it goes as I will probably order a replacment reflector from them for around $15.00 after I fix several other things on my car.

are either of these brackets for the stock location, or are they generic brackets for hanging off the bottom of a bumper, without lining up with the stock cutouts.
if anyone ever finds a blank for the front spoiler (for the tie-down hole) let me know, I need one of those too :P

Clinton,
The Scantech brackets (2nd one)are the exact factory replica for the stock location in the 700 series. They bolt up inside the bumper through the 2 preexisting holes drilled by the fog light opening in the spoiler. As you can see in the picture, the back of the fog light bucket nests into the mounting bracket. Also, that hole in the pic. is where the bolt sticking out of the back of the fog light housing goes through and attaches to the mount as I talked about in my earlier post.
Hope this helps,
Tim

Sorry i don't know how the lights are mounted on the 7xx cars. On the 240 the dealer installed fogs were mounted ot the bumper. From the add it lists it like it is the correct part; if you had these installed on your car previousely it should no be to hard to see if there is a hole already. Good luck

You can add a LOT of lighting power by replacing the bulbs in your stock 4-rectangular lights with "Euro" lighting (aka: E-code). Check out http://www.rallylights.com/ ...pretty decent prices on Hella halogen lamps. I've dealt with these guys and been quite happy with the service. They also offer Xenon bulbs in the Hella kits and seem to be only charging the diff. between std halogen and Xenons.
I like the H4/H1 combo, as it's not very noticeable, so thieves pass by unaware. This lighting is legal here in Canada, but not in many (if any) States in the US, so the fact that they look (when unlit) like normal sealed beams is a plus. And if you aim them properly, the cops will probably leave you be. I've found no need for driving lights with this setup. I have used Hella 550 fogs - they are too big for your stock airdam openings, but are a great foglight.

The lamps that came originally with the car are the Bosch Pilot 150's fog lights. But you could just as easily buy the driving lights to fit in the same location - they will just be compromised because it is mounted low as opposed to above the bumper.
The brackets for these lights were fragile and are probably gone from your bumper. They are a Volvo item. I suggest that you buy these first and then look at the bosch lamps - the ones you want have a bolt sticking out of back the plastic moulding (there were 2 types of Bosch mounting systems). Once you have the brackets the mounting system you need will become obvious.

hopefully this is not too confusing....

sounds perfectly logical to me.
what of the volvo-specific mounting bracket for the above-bumper driving lamps? I've wanted to install these because at night where I live, it's darker'n the inside of a skunk, and I find myself constantly overdriving my headlamps.
We also get pea soup here on occasion, so the fogs are nice, but my cars were pilfered before I bought it :\

Just a question: Are the headlamp bulbs in your car replaceable, or do you have to replace the whole housing?
The reason I ask is that I've taken to installing good Xenon Gas bulbs in my rides. They are MUCH whiter and throw light further than Halogen. In fact I kind of relate them to being as much better than Halogen than Halogen is better than the incandescent lights on teh '60's and '70's.
I'm sure you've seen the cars with the blue-white headlights? It's like having aircraft landing lights on the front of your car. :-)
SilverStars are available everywhere, but they seem rather expensive and less powerful than some others.
I particularly like the Eurolite series from Toucan. I get them on eBay for about $25 a pair. They also make an H3 bulb if your driving lights use that bulb.
I found a set of 7" round headlight housings that fit my PV544, and I put Xenon bulbs in them I went from a dim yellow glow in front of the car to being able to see about 1/2 mile with the high beams on. My driving lights are still Halogen - I haven't found Xenon bulbs for them yet - but with everything on I can see from LA to London...;-)
Just a thought...Steve

Xenon is a possibility, but I think I'll replace the stock sealed beams with the hella sealed beam conversions, and go with euro-spec halogen. I still want to install driving lights, because in this corner of canada, it gets bloody dark at night.
thanks for the tip on rallylights.com, I'll look carefully there, these are sort of on the list of annoying little things wrong with my car :P

The salvage yards can be a good source for lights, though you won't know the electrical condition until you put some power to them. Last fall when I went junking, I came across 2 740's (1 GLE/1 Turbo) that still had the Bosch driving lights on them....I just did not need them, since mine still work....
