This has me a little confused. Both the owner's manual and the dealer service manual specify 5.9 quarts of oil if you changing oil and filter. Then there is a little " * " which directs you to a condition. 6.4 quarts if you also drain the oil cooler. What?
The oil filter is at the bottom of the oil cooler. You can't change the oil filter without also training the oil cooler. Is there a separate drain I don't know about? The first few times I changed the oil and filter, I added 6 quarts. After the first drive (and letting it cool) I was always down .5 quarts. After topping off that initial .5 quart the dip stick is always at full. Now I just buy 7 quarts and fill 6.5 from the very begining.
Is this just a 94 model year quirk?

It the same way with mine, I just put 6 quarts in though and go on, if I run at high speeds around 75 to 80 for a long time the oil goes down for some reason but will stay in spec if I run around 60. Don't know why that is but it's done that since day one at 40k miles. So when I change the oil I put in 6 quarts and check from time to time when I need to add more.

Yep, it's six quarts wehen changing the oil and fliter. My mechanic aways reminds me hat it's short on the dipstick sfter he changes it. But I tell him that it takes a while to settle and 6 is what I run with. I add oil when the dipstick is dry of oil; one quart down.
