Alternator question? 700 1990

I have a 1990 740 non turbo with a no start condition.
Battery has pleanty of juice to crank and crank.
There is no spark fron the coil.
Can a failed alternator/voltage regulator cause a no spark condition?
This brick is equipped with the rex/regina ignition system.
I suspect the alternator because the battery light has been on ever since the engine suddenly stopped.
The crank sensor will be replaced just because the cable doesn't look so good but that will have nothing to do with the pesky battery light.
Is there a wiring harness that may be suspect?

Thanks

Richam

check the faq for how to pull the codes.

Alternator question? 700 1990

More than likely no relationship alternator to coil -- that is the charging system to ignition system -- they're seperate systems. You may want to place a voltmeter on the battery and actually check battery voltage -- however, considering that it's cranking the engine suggests that there's probably enough voltage for the coil to fire. Once the car starts and is running you can check the alternator output with the vm on the battery. I believe the range is somewhere around 13-15 volts but will let others confirm.

Good Luck!

I've put two crank sensors into our '90 740 Ti.

Worry about the alternator after you get your brick running.

Around here a used alternator costs $30 - I put one in our '90 at 210,000 miles.
