SOFTWARE & PARTS 700

1

I have an acquaintance that has the dealership parts program for his VW. Does anyone have the program for their Volvo (700) or know where or how I can get it? Def would make maintenance a lot easier especially with the part #'s and pics so easily accessible.

2

Does anyone know how much it costs VOLVO for the intank fuel pump/sending unit? I paid about $300. What is the markup on something like that? (An exact price would be awesome)

Does someone have a bootleged or old version versions of this deal?

You probably don't want to ask that question on a public forum, what with all of us law abiding citizens around here and the occasional legal attorney surfing the web hoping to find someone to cover his retainer.

Occasionally Vadis CDs and DVDs turn up on eBay and some are current, some are expired. I can't speak for the legitimacy or legality of the sellers since you're not buying it directly from Volvo and they could be illegal copies (and some are from service shops that have gone out of buisness). Theoretically, an older expired verion of Vadis could be run in stand-alone mode if you installed it on a computer with it's clock turned back. However, if you don't have the administrative password (which are particular to the CD/DVD that you're trying to install from), the discs are about as useful as beverage coasters.

I would also advise against attempting to "turn-the-clock-back" after you've installed a subscription based software package. Most of them have a security protocal in their code that will freak out if it finds itself existing in the past. It knows that time is linear and progressive in one direction... I know a mechanic who tried this on a Mitchel subscription with unfortunate results.

There is another program that my local Volvo dealer recently began using on some of their parts counter terminals. I've never seen it before and it's not from Volvo, Mitchel, or AllData. I'll inquire about it and post what I find.

God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.

Software & parts VADIS / VIDA 700

You can buy a 1-year subscription of the same program that your Volvo dealer is using, but the $6,300 price tag may set you back a bit. You can buy it in smaller increments and for specific vehicles, but they must be 1994 or later vehicles for the web version. There's a detailed post on the VADIS / VIDA software package that will probably answer the rest of your questions here: http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=873168
AllData and Mitchell are available at much more cost effective prices for the home user or small shop.

FYI, VADIS is scheduled to be replaced by VIDA in early 2005, and there will be an "all-in-one" client and also a web client version.

God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.

SOFTWARE & PARTS 700

You can order a parts microfiche for your year or if you can afford it, you could try to buy the VADIS dvd from volvo for all of the 700 series cars - that is service instructions and parts breakout. --> but this route is big bucks and may not be available to the public.
