Melted Fuse #1 700 1989

EEEEEOUCHHH !!! I had noticed a hot electrical smell the other day so today in a traffic jam I opened up the fuse compartment, stuck my hand in and burned the snot out of my thumb on what remained of fuse #1 I pulled the remains and replaced with a new fuse but I assume I should check the socket and relay correct ??

My '84 760 Turbo did the same thing. It turned out that the main fuel pump was drawing too much current. I still need to replace my fuse panel as the #1 socket is melted along with the fuse holder for the blower motor.

    Good luck,
    Dave

The heat from current draw will cause the white plastic box to melt. If you have to crank the car over for any period of time the fuse will become hot. If that's the case you should check the electricals as well. Are both fuel pumps still working? It may be time to switch the fuse box, if the plastic is brittle. #16 will do the same thing.
