740 relays and no start 700

I have a '90 740 gl reg./rex. I'm experiencing a no start problem that I am trying to diagnose. There are 2 identical relays on the right side of the engine compartment attached to the coolant ball. One is the radio suppression relay but what is the other? is it a the fuel injector relay? I have codes 3-2-1, 2-2-3, and 1-2-1.
thanks,
Graeme

That other relay is the Auxilary Cooling Fan. I don't think that the radio suppression relay has anything to do with the radio since I jumpered it out on my 88 760 without any problems. It does control power to the injectors among other things. The two pins on the "rounded" side are the ones to jumper. If you are on the fan relay it will turn on when you turn the key to run. I don't have the onboard diagnostics that I can find. I think it was after the 89 Turbo models and on Regina cars so I can't help on the codes.

Apparently you are in good company with the no start condition. Mine ran two days after changing the Coolant Temperature Sensor. My fuel pressure is a steady 45psi so the pumps are not the problem either. Post your solution if you find it and I'll be certain to post mine.

    Thanks,

No, the other black relay (and the two are identical relays) is for your aux cooling fan. So just switch those two, black relays. If your radio supression was bad then now your car will start, but your aux fan won't work. Not a bad trade and you probably don't need AC for a while until you can get a new one.

The fuel pump relay is behind your ashtray and fuses with most of the other relays. After you remover your ashtray, you will see the fuses and can peer into the relays behind them. Then you will have to remove a trim piece around your cigarette lighter to access a screw. Remove the screw and pull out the cigarette lighter assembly and you will see how to get access back to the relays. That whole tray can be pulled out by pushing out on two holders on either side of it, but you may not need to do that.

All this, and much more is in the FAQ under features at the top of this page.
