Cold Start & Stall, Hot Start and 'Hiss' When Boosting 700 1989

Greetings,

For the first start of the day, my '89 765T starts and immediately stalls, then starts and idles rough.

When driven and stopped, it's a "crap shoot" as to whether the car will re-start. If it doesn't, I wait 45 - 60 minutes and it wil start right away.

When driving and the turbo is boosting, there is an audible "hiss" that makes me think of an air leak.

I'm preparing to look at it tomorrow and need some direction. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Stormie - '89 765T (253,000 miles) + '88 240 DL (457,000 miles)

You defintely have a leak on the pressure side of the turbo lines. Check the line from the front of the turbo to the waste gate actuator valve, you could have blown that pressure line right off of either the turbo or off of the waste gate actuator diaphragm, the hose may also have a split in it.

Have someone put the car in drive while you stick your head under the hood. Put the car in drive and apply some throttle, you'll be abled to hear or maybe even see where the leak is.

    I hope this helps you.

Bad injector seals caused a similar problem on my car. As for the turbo hiss, I had something similar, went crazy looking for a hole or crack in the hoses to no avail. It turned out one of the bolts on the turbo housing had come loose and had fallen out. Good luck
