Engine change - no fuel pressure 900 1992

My mechanic changed the 2.9 liters engine in my 960. The old engine had a crack block and probably run hot. Now when everything is done is no fuel pressure. The engine turns around. Fuses are OK. No 12V to the fuel pump and pressure regulator but works with 12V direct.

Engine change - no fuel pressure 900 1992

Dear walle,

Good a.m. and may this find you well. The fuel system relay likely has failed. This relay is located in a cluster, behind the passenger footwell panel, closest to the front center console. The fuel system relay (B) is in the top row, behind the large relay, which controls the headlights.

The engine installer, should know how to find this relay. If not post back, and I'll provide more detailed guidance.

You should also check the RPM/Crank sensor. If it has failed, and thus does not send a signal to the Engine Control Unit, the fuel pump will "spin up", when you turn the key, but will not continue to work. The RPM/Crank sensor is located atop the bell housing, just behind the engine, at the 10 o'clock position, when you face the engine (that is, to the left of center, when you face the engine).

This sensor detects flexplate/flywheel rotation, and signals the fuel pump to keep sending fuel to the engine. In a serious collision, that damaged the engine and stopped it from turning, this sensor will shut-down the fuel pump. This reduces post-collision fire risk, as otherwise the fuel pump might be sending fuel, that feeds a fire in the engine bay.

For guidance on changing the crank sensor, see the FAQs, under FEATURES, above.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook
