Greetings 140 people! 140-160

Word gets out when you're a Volvo farmer and people call you to help them get Volvos out of their driveways. #21 is a '73 (I believe) 144. Fuel injected, manual transmission. Starts and mostly runs, though roughly. Couldn't warm it up due to huge fuel leak at hose at right rear of tank. Going to fix the fuel leak (it appears to just be a split hose) and attempt to drive it home next week.

So who likes Djet? I've got a rusting hulk of a 73 1800ES with the remains of a Djet system on it as well, so I've probably got some spare parts. I've read a little bit about these systems on Vclassics. They seem to be reasonably simple and robust FI systems and probably require less fiddling than SUs. Possibly get better milage and power too?

What's my transmission likely to be? If it's got an overdrive, can I figure this out without looking under the car? Where would they put the switch for it in '73?

That's all for now. I'll post a picture of it when I get it home. It's got some rust but I only had to give $250 for it.

Bob... Bob... Bob....
What the hell are you thinking? I saw your post from last Friday on the 240 section about how much you *only* go for cars that haven't been touched by unqualified privious owners... and here you go getting into a '73 140. Good job!

Very unlikely that its got an overdrive. If it does, as was posted... the stalk would be opposite the turn signal stalk. But I've honestly never seen a '73 140 with OD. Not to say they ain't out there, but they ain't common. I bet you got a M40. Which ain't a bad thing... a ''73 would have a late style M40 which is beefier than early ones.

Djet... I hate it. I love it. If it works, its a wonderful thing. If it doesn't, it can be a real pain in the a$$. Good start would be fresh fuel, and clean the injectors. Others will be able to help more with that though.

I'd say what you got is a good winter beater. Get it running good,(probably just a matter of changing the offending spark plug) and drive it like you hate it. My 'new' 240 is out of commision temporarily, and the 145 won't start... so my 122 wagon is taking the current abuse. Resting outside now having successfully made it up my driveway after about 12" of snow over the past few days. Chains still on of course...

Good luck with the new ride!

The bright yellow 73 142 in my garage has an M41 in it. I bought
it in similar condition as above (runs super rich, sprays fuel
all over the place) also for $250. I bought it as a parts car for
my 122 but then I realized that it has no rust and original paint
and almost no dents or dings anywhere. Oh, and it has 380k miles
on it... I bought it from the original owner.

These days, though, I'm broke enough that I'm unable to even get
the fuel injectors refurbished so it just waits in the garage. Some
day, some day.

On a '73, the o/d switch is on a stalk. right side of the column, closer to you than the wiper stalk.
