Cupholders S90-V90

I know that this is one of those subjects that's been discussed ad nauseam but...

Has anyone mounted those flip down cupholders to the 960/90 series consoles with velcro (vice screws)? I want to be able to remove them quickly if need be and don't want to risk future stress cracks on the console. I envision using the heavy duty velcro.

Cupholders- Follow Up S90-V90

For whatever it's worth...I have mounted the cupholders with velcro and it works well. If anyone wants to do the same thing use the heavy duty, industrial strength, all weather velcro.

Didn't your car come with cupholders? If it's a S/V90 model, I thought all of tthese cars came with them. I think the rear fold out ones are a joke, but I've thought the OEM pull out front holders work just fine.

Cupholders S90-V90

Let's face it, Volvo cupholders in our model and year vehicles just plain suck.
Design, quality...non-existant. Those of you who have been to Sweden and other parts of Scandanavia will know, that 24oz. Dunkin' Donuts cup of Joe in the car is not part of the culture. For sure the cupholders were to satisfy the sales demand of the North American market.
The front cupholder that is supposed to slide out of the armrest is laughable. So let's see: if you put a drink in it, you can't open it without removing the drink, and you have great difficulty to release the parking brake that the drink now sits directly over.
The entire design was an afterthought at best.

I did install the flip down ones that are often used in boats. They are great! Sturdy, adjustable and quite a bit more convenient then the OEM type...and they even match my tan console! Those sitting in the back seat...well they can keep it steady between their legs.

Not sure what you are asking. On my car, the hinge went and I ended up replacing it with a section of piano hinge. Not as functional, but at least it stays on top rather than flying off. The pull out holders still work and that is good engough for me. Gotta love the biodegradeable plastic they used in these cars.
