Temp & Fuel Gauge Indications 200 1980

Anyone know why all of a sudden the temperature gauge and fuel gauge would almost peg out at the same time (temp to hot and fuel to full)?

Thanks

Possibly a failed Voltage Regulator on the back of the instrument cluster.

It's a small rectangular "can" the furnishes a regulated 10.0 volts for those 2 instruments

On our 86' 240gl wagon the temp. guage reads full hot with the head lights on. Turning the switch off for a few seconds usualy brings the guage down to normal, and will stay normal when the lights are turned back on for a while. I never investigated why this is.

Could your guages be triggered by something else?
