won't go into OVERDRIVE 200 1992

i started my 92 240 up this morning and was backing out of the driveway when i noticed the little red arrow came on, so i pushed the buttom on he shifter and it didn't do anything, so i thought the light just might btuck on or something, i take it on the road, and sure enough the overdrive didn't engage. i stopped and started it a few times with no luck... what could be wrong??

240 OD problems must be spawning! 200 1992

If your car is a slushbox, see my reply in the post below.

I don't know a lot about the manuals, but I do know that you should check your fuse, OD relay, switch, wiring and solonoid in that order. Try searching the archives too, ton of stuff in there....

Hmmm - -
My O/D died too, but my light only goes on if I try to lock out the OD via switch button.
Probably not the same cause as yours, as symptoms are not identical.

Interesting that the light will go on when fuse goes bad. I wouldn't have guessed that without studying a circuit diagram.

That is a tricky one. But that bulb always has +V on one side. When the OD relay is in the "OD selected" state, it's sending +V to the both solenoid and the relay side of the bulb. With +V on both sides of the bulb, no current means no light.

When the relay is toggled for "OD Off"(or the fuse blows, dropping the relay), the outputs to both solenoid and bulb are grounded, so the light comes on.

No problem!

BTW - If the fuse "pops" again that might mean that your OD relay is going or that you have a short somewhere else in the OD circuit. Just been thru all this OD sh*t myself....
