winshield wipers keep working 200 1990

I have a 1990 240. The windshield wipers will not stop working.
The switch does change the speed but in the off position the wipers
just keep on going. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Check the wiper motor inside of the engine compartment for the grounding strap. The contact point for the grounding strap sometimes gets dirty and corroded and could use a good cleaning and re-tightening. Using some di-electric grease would help make a good clean connection last longer. Good Luck!

When this happened to me some years ago it was a jammed headlanp wiper arm agravated by an internal diode shorted in the headlamp wiper motor/gearbox unit supplying current to the switched supply from the constant(wiper parking) supply. Short term cure unjam/unplug guilty one.

Possibly same problem I had last year. Clean electrical contacts(fine sandpaper works well) in little gear box which is next to/attatched to wiper motor which is under hood passenger side top of firewall. Mine were corroded and not making correct contact. Good luck.
