Early M46 vs Later M46. Input Shaft swap 200 1978

I currently have a '78 10 spline M46 and have the opportunity to get an '80 22 spline M46. Is it possible to put the early M46 input shaft into the later tranny? Is there a noticeable difference between how the shifting performs/feels between the two trannies? Thanks

One of the executives or top dogs at IPD knows this material like the back of his hand, give them a call and inquire. I would suspect it would be more work than you're interested in, but he could tell you for sure. Sorry, I can't remember his name, but he talked me out of trying to change the output shafts to accomodate an overdrive swap between and '83 M46 and a '89 M46. That would have been a LOT of work.

God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.
