Displacement = power. And the B230FT has the somewhat more responsive and adaptive LH fuel system, though I suspect fuel economy isn't going to be a concern the knock sensor with the LH fuel/EZ116K ignition may help keep detonation in check. However the B21FT is a more bombproof block/bottom end, and if you do try radical mods on a B230FT you'll want to start with 1990 or newer (if I recall correctly - the experts should set me straight if I'm wrong!)as it has the wider, stronger connecting rods & offset wrist pins to minimize piston slap. If money's no object you can build a 400+ HP B230 or B21. There's an article somewhere out there (TurboBricks, perhaps?) about the Homologated racing series 242s that Volvo produced, which exceeded 400HP from B21FTs using water injection among other things to minimize detonation & maximize oxygen content of the charge - water, subjected to the heat & pressure of combustion, reduces combustion temp through evaporation (instead of using fuel dumping), and then is broken down into its component elements, O2 & hydrogen, thus increasing combustion efficiency. Have fun!!
