LATE 1978 VOLVO 200 1978

I have a titled late 1978 Volvo, but apparently it has 1979 parts.

It would not start...so we by-passed the relays. Ran for awhile, now it will start but not stay running.

Already replaced: Starter / Battery / Belts - Timing belt /

Can anyone help? Could it be the Electronic Control Unit? Ignition Control Unit?

I am not the mechanic....and the one working on it isn't familiar with Volvo's.

Thank you!

LATE 1978 VOLVO 200 1978

Hello,

Need more information. There should be an Engine Data Placard on the Left or Right Strut Tower, stating Engine Type. Is it a B21E, Fuel Injected, B21A Carburetted version? The B21E has Fuel Injection and Electronic Ignition. The B21A has two different types of Carburetors and Points and Condenser type of Distributor.

There are no relays, necessarily. Maybe someone installed a Starting Relay, but it is not necessary, if everything else is in good order.

Thank you for responding.

I "believe" it is a B21E. Fuel Injected.

The schematic I saw showed it has the relays, which is what he by-passed.
