745 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON... HOW TO DIAGNOSE? 700 1991

My check engine light came on last week and is still on... I dug around here for answers and tried to see if Advance had a computer to hook it up to with no luck. I dont have a Haynes or anything for this car yet (seems like all i find goes to 1988). How can i check to see why it's on and how can i turn the light off. I've looked over the engine compartment for loose hoses, wires etc. and found nothing. Any help is much appreciated. BTW: My car is a 1991 745 non-turbo with 167k.
Thanks
greg

You should have an OBD I socket behind the left strut tower.

Check the 700/900 FAQ for code reading procedure from the socket and LED.
Only certain codes will set the Check Engine lights. Not sure if the FAQ identifies which ones. If not post them here and someone will know.
