As opposed to what the IPD instructions say I found that retarding the cam timing didn't improve the low end torque for me. I have my cam gear set to full advance and I like it. It didn't turn the car into a porsche by any measure but it sure woke it up and the throttle response feels better. My car is a 1988 wagon, automatic, with 233k on it and stock exhaust. I hear an aftermarket exhaust combined with the cam gear and cam shaft really makes a difference. Although, I'm not sure how much longer we'll have the wagon...so I haven't tried it.

I run mine straight up in the '88 and love it, ignition is advanced to 18º BTDC and it pulls quite nicely from 2500, very nicely from 3500+ and flat screams over 4500. This is with a 2 1/2" single muffler exhaust.

There was good increase across the board, my wife noticed it without me telling her what I was doing, you can't get more definitive than that, totally eliminates the "placebo effect". Where it really shines is merging, floor it and you really go, shift points entering traffic are 2-3 60mph and 3-4 at 75-80 when you back off. That thing really likes to rev, a manual would be better but it is nice with the auto box. I can't really say it's worth the money, the B cam also provides a nice power boost and is ~$15 at any PNP out of a B21. Some people say the "turbo cam" from IPD is better, I haven't tried it.
Cheers

I've put a cam into 3 240's/ One was a radical cam into a '78 242GT, very big improvment with the K-Jet, but 'one-of' IPD Swedish find in the late 80's, nla.
By comparison the VX is mild. I put the VX into a '92 245 w/auto and it made little difference, even with an exhaust, K&N and adj gear. The next I put the VXC into my current '89 245 5-speed w/IPD exhaust, adj gear and K&N. Now this is noticable. I also use a 940 ECU which has fuel maps better for low end torque. It is relatively fast (less than 8 sec 0-60) if I use premimum gas.
The big difference is the torque requirement to drive the auto tranny and OD unit, like on an M46 w/OD. The VX is not enough of an improvement in HP upper end or certaily low end torque to find any difference in the suto tranny. It will show some very nice low end torque AND high end HP when you have it matched with a 5-speed because it is not a torque-eater. I run it a 4 1/2 degrees advanced. Full advanced to 6 degrees lowers the torque a bit.
It will work better with the later LH 2.4 Jetronic compared to the LH 2.2 because the 2.4 can accomodate greater fuel flow to about 20%. The K Jet will also work well because it will flow as much as the cam can allow the valves to flow. Any of the later LH 3.0 jetronic will restrict the flow to stock spec and lean it out too much to have any performance advantage.

Why would you want to make your daughters car go faster? They already go fast enough to get them in trouble. Dan

hi dan, point well taken, but sometime a little more power is a safety feature, like merging onto 1-95 or passing a slow dump truck. even with the cam it is still kinda slow. most new cars will get to 60mph faster than a stock 240 turbo. but i appreciate any responses becuase im never too old to learn. thanks

85 244 turbo = 191,000 many upgrades. mine ;^}
86 244 = 133,000 virgos, ipd sways. daughters
87 245 = broke odo. A cam advanced. one muffler. turbo sways. sons
85 244 = moved away with older son :^) center armrest.
