Hi! Rebuilding the B230F engine and came across the subject hose. The original one was almost disintegrated when I opened up the engine. The hose appears to be for collecting oil from the oil trap.

Questions are how much oil may need to be collected? What happen if I leaf it out and just let the oil drip into the oil pan? VOLVO dealer wants $22.00 for the 1-foot rubber hose! Are there other heat-resistant hose that may be used!

    If you can wait for it to be shipped, I've had good luck with Borton Volvo in Minneapolis, MN. The discount over local dealer prices is often 25-40%.

    Also, does your local dealer give discounts for being a member of the Volvo Club of America? I just found out that my local does give membership discounts to the tune of 25% off... will continue to use Borton since they are (still) cheaper, although it's nice to know that if I'm in a pinch I won't have to pay full price.

    You need the exact length and sizing of hose - it is an important piece. The green service manuals are very specific about this. Get the dealer piece.

    If you leave it out and oil drips all over through the bottom of the breather box, you will kick yourself. I can imagine that any heat-resistant hose that fits will work.

      The top end of this important hose also acts as a seal between the oil seperator box and the block. Get the right part.
