Interesting photos of Volvo car crash 700 1987

Photos of our 1987 Volvo 740 after a drunk driver ran a stop sign without even slowing down (at about twice the speed limit). I was driving and saw the headlights coming and stopped as I was coming into the intersection - no stop sign on our through road - and he hit us in front of the wheel from the right. If I had not seen him and stopped he would have hit the passenger door where my fiance was sitting.

We were not hurt at all, although the other car was in mcuh worse shape, it was an Acura and the whole side was ripped off. It spun out 180 degrees and ended up half a block down the street and collided with a metal refuse container in front of a house undergoing renovations.

The driver fled the scene before the police arrived and they never found him (he was not the owner of the other car, the story is apparently the car's owner was at the bar drunk and this guy he didn't know offered to drive his car home.... and was evidently no more sober!) so who knows if the driver was injured.

This was in 2001 but I was just going through photos and making a web album, thought I would share!

Glad your okay, but that too bad about the car. Once everything is setteled with the insurance, you should try to keep the wheels from the car,and you should be able to do that for not a whole lot of money at all. Also, be prepaired not to accept the insurance comapanys firt offer as they try to low ball you. Good luck and safe bricking from here on out!

Thanks for sharing the pics. It was a nice-looking car--sorry you had to lose it that way. Glad you weren't hurt.

Glad you folks are OK. I hope the guys insurance doesnt pull a number on you. If you want to get a real warm fuzzy feeling about being in that car, take the passenger door panel off and take a good look and the bar in the door, the things have a cage built into them not unlike a race car ( ever wonder why they weigh so much :-).

      Hello,
Thank god you were in a volvo. It just shows you how strong they really are. I have a 1986 740 GLE estate and its very reassuring to know they are very, very strong. Your car does look in very very good condition prior to the accident. Hope your Ok. Regards KYLE123 (James)

Insurance was fair to us, it is all settled this was in 2002 700 1987

After battling with them, insurance gave us what we paid for the car 1 year before. It was in exceptional condition with low miles and they wanted to give us $3000 when we bought it for $5500 one year prior. However after faxing them tons of ads for cars in comparable condition and getting a few Volvo mechanics and dealers to fax them too with how much it would cost to replace the car, and how our car had been in exceptional condition, they gave in and gave us our full purchase value.

Besides it was 100% other party's fault and our insurance company would be getting the money back from other guy's company (the car owner was passenger in his car). So I don't see why they were even trying to stiff us - perhaps because they would keep the difference!

The photos were taken in the junk yard where it was towed directly after the accident and I was only allowed to retrive personal belongings, no salvaging any parts off the car. The insurance comapny apparently sells the cars at auction to regain part of their money, so they would want to keep the wheels and other nice parts.
