Up here in Queensland there was a couple of B30 speedcars(sprintcar with no wings) competing in the six banger class. They used the regulation 2 barrel methanol holley mounted on a modified D-Jet manifold. I don't know if they are still around. I think you will find that they will ask you to use whatever fords & holdens use.

We have a 164 race car in the Volvo Car Club of NSW (Australia) that has been around for a while (along with a lot of 140 race cars). Im not sure of the exact specs of the car but i can find out if you want.

I recently updated the clubs gallery and you can see a few pics of the car on there. The website is www.volvocarclubnsw.com. Click on 'gallery' and then have a look in the 'miscellaneous' album.

cheers

I say go for it! We've all seen the heavy American iron that gets turned into race cars... Like you, I've only seen pictures of them in rallyes, but I don't see why you couldn't make a speed track car out of one.

Don't know about regulations, but the local vintage organization has no restrictions on intake or exhaust.. as long as it's period parts.

If you do this, keep us updated on your progress. Sounds like a heck of a lot of fun!

If you have a choice of years, 1972 B30 engines have 168bhp compared to 130bhp for 1975 B30 engines. That is a heavy car to turn into a racer, the 140's are better suited because of weight.

Hi All

Thank you all for your input

In Australia the 164 power outputs are

B30A 140hp
B30E 160hp

The rules for this class of speedway cars is

No fuel injection no turbos or superchargers

Internal engine mods are unlimted

All the car in the speedway club where I live run Holley carbs. But there is a BMW in another towm running twin carbs.

The car in this class are mainly powered by Ford 4.1 6cyl engines and holden 3.3 6cyl engines

So I have to inquire with officals if I can run a 164 with the factory twin carbs

Next is finding a selection of factory parts to make a B30A make as much or more power than the B30E
