stupid tie rod end question 200 1987

Hi guys and gals, I just received new tie rod ends (Federal Mogul). They have metal rings at the top and bottom of the rubber boots. My current ends do not have the rings. Do I remove them or leave 'em on? Thanks.

FYI: The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask when you know you should. Voice of experience here. Its a lot cheaper to ask first.
