240 Wagon - Rear interior side panel variations?? 200

I have an '88 240 DL wagon that I have acquired a pair of the Volvo Sound rear speaker panels for. The panels clip into place on either side of the rear seats where the large plastic side panels usually cover. I know that older wagons originally had a vinyl panel in this area in lieu of the large plastic panel, so you could just pop out the old panels and pop the new speaker panels in place.

Did older 240 wagons have a plastic panel that covered the door beams and then stopped right where the vinyl panels began? If so I could just pop a pair of them into place and not have to mess around with modifying my existing panels.

Thanks!
Drew

Nope - no cover at all. The older wagons were simply the bare painted sheet metal.
